Three Inducted to Leadership Society PDF Print E-mail

Three of Crew 42's officers were nominated by the Chief Seattle Council and selected by the BSA National Court of Honor to be inducted into the new National Youth Leadership Society.  Jake K and Brody H were presented with their award at a recent Council meeting in downtown Seattle.  Jeff Z was also chosen, but was unable to attend the ceremony while away at college.

To be eligible for the Society, a Venturer has to accumulate a significant resume of leadership, both within and outside BSA.  A candidate must complete several training courses, including a Troop Leadership course and/or Venturing Leadership Skills Course, the weeklong National Youth Leadership Training, complete a Kodiak leadership trek, and finish a Kodiak X course.  Options include the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience at Philmont Scout Ranch and the new Mentoring Tomorrow's Leaders course.  Staffing any of these courses brings extra consideration.

A candidate must then successfully serve in a series of leadership positions in a BSA unit.  Consideration is given to Patrol Leader or Senior Patrol Leader in a Boy Scout Troop, and any of the Officer cabinet positions in a Venturing Crew.  Additionally, they must serve in leadership positions outside of Scouting in school, church, or community.  This can include sports teams, community service clubs, religious organizations, and educational duties in a position of demonstrated responsibility.

The Society will be celebrating its second anniversary and fewer than 25 Venturers nationwide have been selected.  Jake, Brody, and Jeff are the first three in the Chief Seattle Council.
